Words Ending in -dge, -Cge

When a word ends with the letters dge or ge it makes a special soft g sound /ge/ like in the words edge and change. The e at the end of silent -- we don’t hear it. It is there to make the g say its soft sound. Listen for the soft g sound in these words and notice how each word ends with the letters ge.
